This nasty little Australian gem is one of the most compelling films of the 2000's for us not just because it's so stark and sinister in its brutality, but because it delivers an equal amount of heart via the performance of its lead actress, Robin McLeavy. Yes, her Princess Lola is crazier than a shithouse rat, and none of the horrific things that she does to poor Brent are meant to evoke much sympathy from us, but she did it for love, man. And somehow, amidst all of its crazy, gory, horrible torture, this film makes us feel for her.

The fact that it's sitting at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes means that The Loved Ones struck a similar chord with many movie critics around the world. This is a must see for any fans of twisted love stories.

  1. What a coincidence. I just decided to throw this on this morning :)
I can never see it enough times! Robin McLeavy has the most beautifully malicious smile in the salt scene.

    1. It really is such a great movie.

Robin McLeavey is fantastic in this. She's also great in the AMC show Hell on Wheels.

    1. Mark, do not land yourself in the poorhouse buying movies! lol

It's odd hoow once you start building a collection, how quickly it grows, isn't it? I did the same exact thign with DVD back in the day, and now I TRY to only buy movies that I really like, and will watch multiple times.

      It ain't easy lol

    2. Yeah the problem is, I like collecting horror films. I don't have this problem with most other movies, just these.
