Title: The Devil's Rejects
Year: 2005.
Sub-Genre: Grindhouse, Survival/Revenge.
Rob Zombie's film offerings are a mixed bag at best, and at the top of that wildly uneven heap lies The Devil's Rejects, which may be the best Road Revenge movie ever made.
House of 1000 Corpses was a fun effort that we enjoyed, while many others dismissed as being little more than hot garbage. While the detractors may be right or wrong about 1000 Corpses, they'll never convince us that it's sequel was not only better in very way, but was an excellent stand-alone movie in its own right.
This one is worth seeing for the performances of Sid Haig and Bill Moseley alone; Otis and Captain Spaulding are two of the most dynamic and terrifying characters ever put to film, and watching the two veteran actors chew the scenery and spit it back out was nothing less that a magical experience for us. The movie itself is stark and brutal; darkly humorous at times; oddly compelling; and in a sick and twisted way, it was a lot of fun.
The Devil's Rejects is Rob Zombie in top form. *Hopefully he gets back there someday.
See you tomorrow with #14!
