It's not easy trying to decide which are the "Best" movies of any 10 year period, and these lists may not be perfect, but they are at least a good representation of the finest that the Horror Genre has to offer.
Carry on...
Coming out of the 90's, Horror flicks had gotten a bit stale and generic. Wes Craven brought things back to life with Scream, which of course prompted plenty of imitators and even more sequels in the Teen Terror sub-genre, but that was only a start. More was needed.
It wasn't really until 2005 that we felt the lifeblood of the Genre truly surging again, when we saw a little French Gem called Haute Tension; that movie knocked us for a loop, and ushered in a new age of gritty, nasty Horror flicks that took the Genre from slick, pretty, and predictable, to a much darker place.
The New French Extremity; the rise of the Found Footage movie; Torture Porn; J-Horror; endless remakes of classic properties; a re-birth of sorts of the zombie film; and even Grindhouse efforts all rose to prominence between 2000-2009. The New Millennium of Horror gave us plenty of dreck to sift through, but it also gave us some excellent examples of why Horror is both he best, and most dynamic Genre in film.
So here are the 50 Best Horror Movies of the 2000’s. If you’re looking to explore the genre, then these are the movies of The New Millennium that you should start with. The movies in the Top Six are timeless and essential (at least to us), but so are many of the ones that make up the rest of the 50. You should really explore them all.
