Check it out:
The thing bout the original was that it was gritty, nasty, bleak, and above all else, at least for us, it was spiritually challenging. Whether you bought into it or not, it had more going for it than just torture porn gags and shocking set pieces; it had deeper meaning and message.
This remake though looks more like a typical Hollywood Horror flick; it looks like it's going to be slick, sanitized, and watered-down. Audience-friendly, even... like many Blumhouse productions tend to be. Is that a good or a bad thing? Well that remains to be seen.
We'll still give it a go when it's released, because that's what we do, but if this trailer is any indication as to what we're going to get from this ill-advised remake, then we're not very hopeful. It's not really fair to make that judgement having not seen the movie, but that's the way the trailer rubbed us.
Martyrs will see a limited theatrical release on January 22nd, and will hit VOD and Blu-ray 11 days later on February 2nd.
I don't even know why they bothered or who exactly this remake is intended for. I'm sure every horror movie fan has already seen the real version.
ReplyDeleteFans like us, sure. But obviously someone wants to go after the average teen with this remake... which is probably why the girl from Pretty Little Liars is in it.
DeleteUgh.
MARTYRS is brilliant, but this...
ReplyDeleteI know.
DeleteOh for christ sake, must they remake everything!
ReplyDeleteYes. I think it's a law now. lol
DeleteThr Crow, Suspiria, Inside... there are more remakes of movies that DOD NOT need one coming up soon, that it makes us shake our head.
