Jamie Lee Curtis is one of the, if not THE, most famous Scream Queen of all-time. Others definitely came before her, but she took it to a new level with the role of Laurie Strode in John Carpenter's 1978 classic, Halloween. She probably gets it from her momma (who played the victim in the infamous shower scene in Psycho), but it was her Laurie Strode that firmly planted the Final Girl conceit into the minds of audiences at large back in 1978.
She (both Jamie Lee and the characters that she played) had a sweet, girl next door quality about her that made audiences root for her to survive against the killers that always seemed to want to do her in, and that archetype has been used countless times since to fuel Slasher, and Horror flicks in general, ever since.
Most of her Horror work came in roles, both big and small, in John Carpenter's 80's films, but between 1978-1982, she was THE Scream Queen in a variety of movies in a Genre that was just beginning to boom.
She eventually got away from her Horror beginnings, going on to become a big mainstream star in the 80's & 90's with roles in such classic movies as Trading Places, A Fish Called Wanda, My Girl, and True Lies, to name a few. She'll always be a Final Girl to us though.
Below, we've listed all of Jamie Lee Curtis' Horror & Genre work: from where she started, to where she is today. Take a look, and check out the flicks. *All picture links go to IMDB.
