The Best of... Family Friendly Horror!

While we truly love the idea of scaring the ever-loving hell out of kids with the Horror movies that we watch, we also know that it's kind of a cruel thing to do. After all, our parents did it to us, and we didn't turn out anywhere near normal, so we try not to traumatize the kids in our lives too much. They deserve better!

As popular as Halloween is though (especially with kids), we know that they want to watch some scary Halloween-themed movies just like we do, and that's why we decided to do a Family Friendly Horror list. There are actually plenty of G and PG movies out there that allow even the youngest Horror fans to celebrate Halloween without causing them to have nightmares for weeks.

The kids deserve something “scary” to watch at Halloween time too!

  • Most of the movies on this list are geared towards younger kids.
  • As "kid-friendly" as everything on this list is, movies like The Lady in White, Something Wicked This Way Comes, Vikaren, and The Watcher in the Woods are genuinely scary, and may prove to be too intense for some kids.
  • The Honorable Mention section includes 6 movies, that while being kid-friendly, are also a bit more mature than the rest of the movies on the list. They're definitely for more mature kids.

If you and the family are in the mood to watch a quality Family Friendly Horror flick together, then any of the movies in our Top Six will do you right. For our money, you almost have to watch It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and The Nightmare Before Christmas every year at Halloween, but then again all of the movies below bring their own unique and kid-friendly vision to the Horror Genre, so why not just enjoy them all!

Below are the rest of our 30 Best Family Friendly Horror flicks, and of course, a few Honorable Mentions thrown in for good measure. Keep in mind that no "Best of" list is ever perfect, but merely a solid starting point for anyone looking to watch some great flicks.

*Most of the links go to Amazon so that you can stream or grab yourself a copy of the movies; or in the case of some of the older & more obscure titles, IMDB, because they simply aren't available to stream or purchase.

  1. It would be a harsh crime to miss Gremlins here around Christmas time

  2. Hmmmm, not sure Critters and The Frighteners are exactly family horror. Although they are good films. I think you may have missed one, there's a film called The Watcher in the Woods. It's a bit creepy and it's Disney(Yup,shocking)

    1. Some movies make more than one list, and Teen Witch is a kid-friendly Horror movie. Lots of people will only read this list, so we can't not include it, you know?

And Edward Scissorhands isn't really a horror movie, and Time Bandits definitely isn't. Great movies though.
