The Best of... The 1990's!

550
Before we take a look at the 31 Best Horror Movies of the New Millennium during this year’s 31 Days of Horror, we thought we’d go back and try to figure out what the best movies of the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s were first. For the sake of continuity.

By the time the 90's rolled around, audiences had grown tired of Horror Movies in general. The market had been over-saturated with endless amounts of Slasher Movies and the like, many of which dipped in quality as the decade wore on, and so it basically collapsed in on itself like a dying star.

There were still some decent Horror & Genre movies being made in the 90's, but it wasn't until 1996 when the pendulum swung back to the good side of things, when Wes Craven gave the world Scream. The self-aware Teen Slasher Comedy made Horror fun again, and audiences welcomed it with open arms.

  • We wen’t with 50 movies for this list instead of our normal 36, and even then we were forced to leave some great movies out in the cold. I promise you, none of those choices were easy.
  • Aside from the Must See classics in the Top Six section, we heartily recommend that Army of Darkness, The Crow, Event Horizon, Exorcist III, From Dusk Till Dawn, Misery, and The Sixth Sense be at the top of your watch lists.
  • The Crow is not really a "Horror" movie, but it  was an excellent Genre movie, so damn it all!

So here are the 50 Best Horror Movies of the 1990’s. If you’re looking to explore the genre, then these are the classic movies you start with. The movies in the Top Six are timeless and essential, but so are many of the ones that make up the rest of the 50. You should really explore them all.

  1. Nice to see Lord of Illusions getting some love. Sometimes it seems like I'm the only one who appreciated that movie.
