What's New on VOD This Week? (4/5-4/8)

VOD 550
*Check out our other Release Date Pages: Blu-ray & DVD, Theatrical, VOD, TV.

The new, highly-praised Karyn Kusama film; a Netflix exclusive; and a Haunted House flick from New Zealand... this week's VOD crop is a solid one indeed.

We'll be checking three of these movies out this weekend, possibly four, and we're actually hopeful that they're going to be good. We love that feeling.

*Be sure to click the pics to rent the movies, or watch their trailers. Or both. Or neither. It really depends on your mood, now doesn't it?

THE INVITATION
"While attending a dinner party at his former home, a man thinks his ex-wife and her new husband have sinister intentions for their guests."

Advance reviews are praising The Invitation at a movie of the year type of level, which just makes us all the more excited to check it out. Aside from Green Room, this one could well be the best movie to come out in April.

We'll find out tonight.

Rent it, because it's going to be good.

HUSH
"Author Maddie Young lives a life of utter isolation after losing her hearing as a teenager. She's retreated form society, living in seclusion and existing in a completely silent world. But one night, the fragile world is shattered when the masked face of a psychotic killer appears in her window. Without another living soul for miles, and with no way to call for help, it appears that Maddie is at the killer's mercy - but he may have underestimated his prey.."

Not really a VOD release, we include Hush here because it looks awesome, and it deserves a mention. If you have Netflix, you can check it out for free.

Review soon.

Rent it, because again, it looks awesome.

THE DEAD ROOM
"When a terrified family flees a desolate southern New Zealand farmhouse, two cynical scientists and a young psychic are sent to investigate their claims of a haunting. There they encounter a powerful spirit that will protect the house's secrets at all costs."

The Dead Room is a small movie from New Zealand that caught our attention with its trailer. Not sure if it's going to be good or not, but we're certainly going to find out.

Rent it, because it might just surprise us all.

Also
Aside from The Hoarder, it's a mess down here, folks.

  • We pretty much hated #Horror, but hey, the world is a big place, and lots of people like lots of different things. It sucked though. Read our review HERE.
  • Another "not great" movie, Deadly Weekend at least has the hotness of Sara Underwood going for it. It's not horrible, but it's not very good. Read our review HERE.
  • We're starting to sound like a broken record here, but Flight 7500 was pretty bad... which is probably why its release was delayed so many times over the past two years. Read our review HERE.
  • Exit 14 looks like it's really, really B-grade, but maybe not in a bad way.
  • The Hoarder actually looks kinda good. We may have to check it out.
  • Happy streaming!

  1. The Invitation by far is the best chiller I've seen in awhile. I saw the ending coming a mile away, not the very last shot, mind you - that was a nice touch, but the overall payoff, but that was ok. The great thing about the film, like all worthwhile ones, is about the journey - not the destination. This movie main lead and all the supporting characters lead us to such a level emotionally that the destination is all the more weighty and horrific because of the depth taken with a them in such a short period. This will be a still be a favorite of mine years from now.
