"Blending the macabre with a wicked sense of humor, director John Landis (National Lampoon's Animal House) delivers a contemporary take on the classic werewolf tale in this story of two American tourists who, while traveling in London, find their lives changed forever when a vicious wolf attacks them during a full moon. Starring David Naughton, Griffin Dunne and Jenny Agutter, An American Werewolf in London is newly restored and features groundbreaking, Academy Award winning make-up by Rick Baker (The Wolfman; Michael Jackson's Thriller Music Video)."

One of the absolute best werewolf movies ever made, An American Werewolf in London is getting the deluxe Blu-ray treatment with a brand new 2k transfer, and a few cool extras that should make any fan happy. I just really want to see how sharp Universal has made it look with the new restoration, but it's a nice package overall.

"On Halloween, 1962, ten year old Frankie Scarletti's classmates lock him in the coffin-like confines of his fourth grade cloakroom where he is forced to spend the night unbeknownst to anyone....alive. When the darkness comes, Frankie is horrified to discover the ghost of a little girl murdered in the very same room ten years earlier. How he comes to solve the mystery of who killed her and bring her to final peace, makes for a terrifying and heartwarming journey into the realm of human experience."

A new Scream Factory title that's been delayed a few times, The Lady in White is now on Blu-ray.

I remember this one scaring me half to death when I was a kid. It doesn't scare me much at all anymore, but it's still a great movie that has that Fall/Halloween feel about it. The Lady in White is a truly creepy visage herself, especially for the kiddies, but I can't listen to the song "Have you ever seen a dream walking?" anymore without thinking about a creepy child murderer. This movie just brings back fond memories of being a kid at this time of year, and feels right to watch so close to Halloween.

Can't wait to finally check this one out on Blu-ray

"In the taut thriller The Shallows, Nancy (Blake Lively) is surfing alone on a secluded beach when she is attacked by a great white shark and stranded just a short distance from shore. Though she is only 200 yards from her survival, getting there proves the ultimate contest of wills. It's Jaws for a new generation."

The Shallows is one of the best killer shark movies we've ever seen. That may not sound like high praise, because most killer shark movies aren't very good to begin with, but this movie can be safely mentioned in the same breath as Jaws and Open Water when the best of them is discussed, and that's saying something.

It's definitely worth a look on Blu-ray

Special Features:

  • Four Featurettes:
    • Shooting in The Shallows
    • How to Build a Shark
    • Finding The Perfect Beach: Lord Howe Island

  • Lionsgate, along with a newly-resurrected Vestron Video, are releasing the 80's b-movie classics, Blood Diner and Chopping Mall, on Blu-ray this week, and they look like they're going to be fun titles.
  • The Neon Demon was a gorgeous movie, but a bit of an oddity. Read our review HERE.
  • The 30th Anniversary Edition of Highlander looks fun, because who doesn't love Highlander? There can be only one!
  • Arrow Video brings yet another 80's b-movie to Blu-ray this week with Slugs
  • Cell was a mediocre-at-best Stephen King adaptation that is probably better rented than bought. Read our review HERE
  • We didn't catch Warcraft while it was in theaters, but it looks like a fun flick, so we'll definitely give it a go now that it's on home video, as it's one of those movies that is destined to look great on Blu-ray.
  • There are 4k version of The Shallows and Warcraft available now too, if 4k is your thing.
  • Francesca looks interesting, but is most likely a rental for us.
  • And of course any time a new MST3K set drops, it's a good thing.
  • Everything else, as always, is a crap-shoot.

  1. "The Lady in White" has been on my top ten Halloween movies list ever since I saw it as a kid. Very rewatchable in my opinion.
