Blu-ray & DVD: The Digital Dread Report for March 24th

This is the week we've been waiting for! What week is that, you ask? Well, it's finally the week in which the long delayed (not that long, really) Blu-ray of The Beyond arrives at our doorstep!

The Beyond Blu-ray is finally here! Now, we're not expecting the Grindhouse release of this Fulci classic to be perfect or anything, but seeing as we've been watching the same old crappy DVD version of this one (called The Seven Doors of Death) for years and years now, we're dying to get our hands on a 1080p upgrade, and see it in all of its HD glory. So yeah, we're happy.

"THE BEYOND arrives in a lavish 3-disc set with GLOW-IN-THE-DARK artwork housing two Blu-ray discs and a bonus CD of the classic Fabio Frizzi soundtrack, remastered from the original studio tapes"

If you've never seen this Fulci classic, or if you've always been curious about old Italian zombie flicks, get yourself a copy of The Beyond and get ready to have your mind blown.

Digging Up the Marrow (our review HERE) is a solid mockumentary style movie that boasts a brilliant performance by Ray Wise, as well as some fun and genuine scares throughout. For only $12.99, you might as well grab a copy of the Blu-ray if you're curious about this one, instead of renting it for only a few $$$ less.

The new Arrow release of Blind Woman's Curse looks to be at the very least, an interesting watch. "A bizarre blend of the female Yakuza film and traditional Japanese ghost story, with a strong dash of grotesque-erotica (the same movement was a sensibility of Edogawa Rampo whose works were adapted by Ishii in Horrors of Malformed Men), Blind Woman’s Curse is a delirious mash-up of classic genre tropes, of which Ishii was no stranger, having directed everything from Super Giant films to Biker movies!"

Alright, we're intrigued.

As for The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, well, you already know that that's all about. We'll wait for the Extended Edition to come out this fall before buying it, but that's just us.

Aside from the new MST3K set, which is going to be great, everything else on the DVD front this week falls into that wonderful B-movie crap-shoot category. Good luck.
