August 2015: A Preview of the Month in Horror

It's August!

Summer is fading fast, but before we get to the Fall, and and all of the creepy wonders that it will no doubt bring with it, we've still got plenty of Movies and TV Shows to help make the Summer nights a bit creepier... and to help us get all geared-up for the upcoming Halloween Season.

Below, we've listed 10 or so of the best Movies & TV Shows that are seeing Theatrical, Blu-ray & DVD, VOD, or TV releases this August; they're the biggest and (potentially) best of them, and at the very least, they are the ones that we're most excited to check out.

AUGUST 23RD
The biggest thing happening in August, at least Horror-wise, is the premiere of Fear the Walking Dead. As popular as The Walking Dead is, a spin-off series is a no-brainer, and the fact that it's set at the very beginning of Zombie Apocalypse has us all sorts of excited. We're really curious to see how they handle this story, from a new perspective.

We're hoping that Kim Dickens and crew knock this one out of the park.

AUGUST 25TH
On the Blu-ray front, this Limited Edition Blu-ray of the The Walking Dead's 5th Season seems to be the way to go, if you're going to be adding Season 5 to your collection, of course. It may even be the coolest Special Edition packaging that they've done yet for the series. We're already trying to figure out where we're going to display ours...

The price will drop to around $60-70 or so when it's released, so for now, just add it to your cart and wait.

AUGUST 21ST
We loved the first Sinister, and we're hoping that this sequel will be just about as good. It's really the only "Big" Horror flick hitting Theaters in Wide Release this August, so let's hope that it measures up.

Ciaran Foy (the guy who directed Citadel) is directing Sinister 2, so let's hope that it's just as atmospheric.

AUGUST 28TH
The trailer for Regression looks pretty intense and disturbing, and we're all for any chance to see Emma Watson in a Genre project, so we'll definitely be catching this one when it's released.

AUGUST 7TH
The Gift has got a top-notch cast, and it looks like a solid Thriller, so we'll probably line up to see it before we spend our money on Fantastic Four, which comes out the same weekend.

Jason Bateman and Joel Edgerton have seldom let us down before, so we're expecting this one to deliver. Like the guy in that poster is delivering that gift.

AUGUST 25TH
The first season of From Dusk Till Dawn was entertaining enough, and with names like Danny Trejo, Esai Morales, Jeff Fahey, Briana Evigan, and... Demi Lovato (?) joining the cast, it should be even better. Or at least as good.

AUGUST 7TH
Ugh... this one doesn't look all that hot to us, but we love Kate Mara and Michael B. Jordan, and Miles Teller was great in Whiplash, so maybe we'll swallow or distaste and give it a go.

Or maybe we'll just wait until it hits VOD.

Coming Soon
August is set to be a very busy month on the VOD front, and so we've listed six of the best movies coming to streaming platforms over the next 30 days, so that you know what to keep an eye out for.

We've seen: Furious 7, which was a ton of silly fun; Mad Max: Fury Road, which kicked all sorts of ass; and Cub, which was suitably creepy and disturbing.

The Boy looks phenomenal.

Downer's Grove and Final Girl could go either way.
