There just aren't a lot of Horror movies set in space, and so we had to be a bit liberal with the titles that we included on this list. Below, you'll find a few movies that lean more towards the Sci-Fi side of things, as well as a few that are straight-up B-movies. We even included Hellraiser: Bloodlines here, because it featured Cenobites in Space.
It's a small list that takes some liberty with boundaries, but Space Horror is a tiny sub-genre that we love, and so we felt that it deserved a bit of recognition.
If you're in the mood for a truly quality Space Horror Flick, any of the movies in our Top Six will do you right. Alien and Event Horizon are probably our all-time faves, but then they all bring their own unique and terrifying vision to the Space Sub-Genre.
*Most of the links go to Amazon so that you can stream or grab yourself a copy of the movies; our review of the movie (when applicable); or in the case of some of the older & more obscure titles, IMDB, because they simply aren't available to stream or purchase.
Glad to see that Prometheus has made the top 6, but Pandorum?? Really?
ReplyDeleteLoved the hell out of Pandorum, and it really captured the Space Horrror thing better than most others. I was about to put Ghosts of Mars in the Top Six, which wouldn't be much better in most people's eyes.
DeleteThe only reason Starship Troopers is at the bottom is because it's basically pure Sci-fi, and I just wanted to include it because it's such a great movie.
ReplyDeleteAgreed though :)
I LOVE space horror! My favourite movie by far is Alien! I actually love all of these. Particularly Event Horizon and Pandorum. I have a weird fascination with Ghosts of Mars...don't know why. Feels almost like a guilty pleasure :)
ReplyDeleteWe love Space Horror movies too, it's just a shame that there aren't more of them.
ReplyDeleteAnd we LOVE Ghosts of Mars. Can't explain why, it just rocks. *We're in the minority on that one, I'm afraid :)
Totally agree! I wish there were more! Space is such a perfect vehicle for horror.
ReplyDeleteThere's just something about Big Daddy Mars :)
I love Sunshine and think it it totally underrated. Would definitely bump it to the top.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, Geoffrey. Sunshine has never reieved the love it deserves. Excellent film.
DeleteI love me some screamers as well, Peter Weller hamming it up every chance he gets. Still there were elements of it that scared me when I was younger. Especially the creepy little kid.
ReplyDeleteNo 'Lifeforce'?
ReplyDeleteAlways had a soft spot for 1990's Dark Side of the Moon.
ReplyDeleteNo Predator? Other alien terror flicks include Saturn 3, Xtro, Deadly Spawn, Alien Factor, Contamination, Without Warning, Body Snatchers, the Puppet Masters, Alien vs Predator,
