Trailer: The Beguiled (2017)

"At a girls' school in Virginia during the Civil War, where the young women have been sheltered from the outside world, a wounded Union soldier is taken in. Soon, the house is taken over with sexual tension, rivalries, and an unexpected turn of events."

Sophia Coppola's first two movies, The Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation, blew me away when I first saw them, and remain two of my favorite films to this day. Since those gems though, she hasn't done anything that really wowed me, but it looks like The Beguiled is about to change that.

Based on the book A Painted Devil, The Beguiled is a remake/re-imagining of sorts of the 1971 film of the same name which starred Clint Eastwood in one of his finest roles. In that movie, Clint plays a soldier convalescing at a all-girl seminary, where he gets the ladies all hot and bothered (old and young alike), and it ends well for no one, especially him.

This re-whatevering could be a really interesting and disturbing flick in Coppola's hands, as long as they don't hold back on the more disturbing elements of the story to please the ever-lingering SJW crowd of today, as the original flick was packed full of all sorts of controversial shit. The idea of Colin Farrell stuck in a house full of hot chicks like Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning, and Nicole Kidman holds an endless amount of promise. And danger.

The Beguiled hits theaters on June 30th.
