If early reviews are to be believed, then Devoured might end up being worth a rental this weekend.

"Immigrant mother (Marta Milans, Killer Women, Mala Hierba) works as a cleaning woman at an old New York City restaurant in order to make enough money to pay for her sick son's operation. With no friends or family, she lives a lonely, desperate existence, saving every penny and sending it home for her son. As his condition worsens malevolent forces living within the walls of the restaurant begin to torment her. She struggles to escape, and return to her son before the evil within the dark walls drives her completely mad."

This one definitely looks to be an atmospheric little Psychological Horror flick, and we'll definitely be checking it out in short order.

Since The Pact (our review HERE) was one of our favorite flicks of 2012, we're all kinds of excited to check out its sequel.

"Only a few weeks after Annie Barlow exterminated the plague that was the Judas Killer, we meet June, a woman whose carefully constructed life in Los Angeles is beginning to unravel due to lucid nightmares so awful they disturb her waking life.

When Special Agent Kevin Dickey, the FBI agent assigned to wrap up the case of the newly deceased Judas Killer shows up at June’s door, he brings with him some terrifying news – there is a Judas copycat killer on the loose in her neighborhood! In the course of his investigation, Dickey shows June a picture of the copycat killer’s victim, and she is stunned to see that it’s the same woman she saw brutally murdered in her nightmares.

A series of hauntings begin to torment June, growing in frequency and ferocity over time. Now, not only does she see murder victims, but her dreams put herself in the role of the murderer. June fears that the spirit of the Judas Killer is the architect of some greater plan in which she must now play a part. June struggles to maintain her grip on sanity as she plunges into her own investigation of these events. No matter the result, the truth will be horrifying either there is true evil inside of her, or someone, or something, is determined to destroy her… IT'S NOT OVER."

The sequel has got Caity Lotz in it, so we're in, but we just hope that it lives up to its predecessor, as the creative team behind it is different than the first movie.

  1. Wow, thats strange... ive had Devoured in my collection for about a year, maybe year and a half? Not sure where I got it, and I read the summary thinking it was a different film with the same title, but its not, its the film I have... just getting a release? its not bad, a little loopy but worth a watch... just got The Pact 2, stoked to see it... \m/ (I know you havent seen my suggestion for "Gun Woman" yet, because had you seen it, theres no doubt in my mind youll review it as soon as you do... im telling you, keep your eye out for it.)

  2. Yeah JJ, it looks like Devoured has been around since like 2012, but just never saw a big release until this Summer (in Germany), and now in the U.S. The way studios do Worldwide distribution in this day and age is baffling...

We will be watching Pact 2 this weekend, and we have NOT forgotten Gun Woman! :)

  3. Yeah, thats happened a couple times... Blackwater Valley Exorcism (i think its called?) comes to mind, and I just got 7500 which was supposed to be released in like 2011, I just got earlier this week... its gotta be frustrating to some actors/actresses who maybe dont get tons of work, and they have to wait 3-4 years to show it off... 7500 wasnt AT ALL what I thought it could be... not horribly bad, but for a 3 year wait, it seems pretty average... Scout Taylor-Compton looks hot in it though. You can DEFINTELY tell it was The Grudge's director though... Yeah man, Ill by watching The Pact 2 this weekend as well, so I look forward to your thoughts (review?)!!

  4. Unfortunately the Pact 2 is an abomination. Watched it last night, Lotz is barely in it, although still looking great! The lead, Camilla Luddington, looks great as well and has deceivingly big boobs for a skinny chick. The Pact was a breath of fresh air and such a great horror film that the Pact 2 completely detracts from this ever being a successful series. It also negates much of the first film in tone, suspense and intrigue. The scares are typical jump/mirror/shadow. I guessed the stupid ass plot "twist" within the first twenty minutes (not that much of a feat, btw). All in all, complete waste of time.

Side note - just discovered this blog - love it! Great work to all involved.

  5. Chaybee, we've been hearing the same thing online; alright in places, but nowhere near as good as the first movie. That's depressing. We'll see it tonight for ourselves.

    And thanks!

JJ, the whole delay thing sucks. Look how long Trick r Treat and Paranormal Activity too to see a proper release. It's sad that a practice like that is average like you say , but it is.
