Blu-ray & DVD Round-Up for May!

dvd bd2

Did you get your hands on every worthy new Blu-ray and DVD release that came out in May? If not, then here's a handy guide to remind you of what you missed, and what you may need to get a hold of asap!

There were a lot of great Horror and related Genre releases last month, and for our money, the biggest Must Haves were the Blu-rays released by Shout/Scream Factory: Sleepaway Camp, Final Exam, and Evilspeak. To see such old, obscure classics restored in such a gorgeous and loving way really does our Horror Hearts good.

Then again, Cheap Thrills and the various Godzilla movies tickled our creepy love bones just as much, even if it was in a completely different way.

Whatever your taste, peruse the list below and order yourself up some cinematic happiness!

What's new on VOD this week?

Due to the festivities of Memorial Day Weekend, and the fact that this week only had one notable Genre VOD release, we decided to combine last weeks releases with this weeks release of Devilery: The Beast Within. Considering the fact that we skipped last weeks VOD post so that we could go and honor our Veteran Forefathers, we're sure you'll cut us some slack.

Cold in July is the next movie we'll be ordering from Comcast In-Demand. Even after the tragically horrible way that Dexter ended, we still love Micheal C. Hall, and we're always down for any movie made by Jim Mickle and Nick Damici (We Are What We Are, Stakeland.) Those guys are aces in our book.

Delivery: The Beast Within looks like a promising new entry into the Found Footage sub-genre. It's been getting decent word of mouth thus far, so we're anxious to see what it's all about. Let's hope that it rises above the usual (and predictable) FF tropes and pitfalls.

Malignant looks like it could go either way. We're willing to give it a fair chance -since it stars Brad Dourif- but we're not expecting much.

If you're in the mood for a cutesy Teen Vampire movie, then maybe Vampire Academy will be your ticket? We'll be waiting until that one hits Netflix, mainly because we still feel too burned by the whole Twilight experience to want to pay for another Tween Bloodsucker movie.
