The Theatrical Trauma of September 7th

I'm imagining that lots of people are going to head out and catch Raiders of the Lost Ark in IMAX this weekend, since it's one of those beloved classics and all, but I won't be one of them. That's no knock on Indy at all, because I love that guy. I just don't have any urgency in me at all to go see Raiders in IMAX. Feels like a cheap money grab to me.

We've seen the spy thriller The Cold Light of Day, and meh. It's direct to DVD level fare, and the only reason it's seeing the inside of a theater is because Henry Cavill is going to be Superman in next Summer's Man of Steel, so the studio wants to get his face and name out there a bit. Cavill is a great actor (see The Tudors, he was excellent in that show), but this mediocre movie is not anything to get worked up about.

[REC] 3... does not belong in the same series with [REC] and [REC] 2. It was lackluster, and will disappoint many fans of the previous flicks. We recommend that if you really want to see this one, wait until it hits DVD and see it at home. Man, it really sucks to say that.

Our must see movie of the week, oddly enough, is a small little flick that came out of nowhere (for us at least), called Branded. The trailer below grabbed our attention in a big way and we've wanted to see this one ever since. We're not driving all the way to Ann Arbor to see it though (it's in Limited Release), so we'll most likely check it out once it hits Blu-ray, but if it's playing near you this weekend, give it a go. We would.
