#SDCC: Scream Factory Announces 10 New Titles Headed to Blu-ray

In the midst of their 5th year anniversary, Scream Factory took to the stage at the SDCC to announce a slew of new titles that they're bringing to Blu-ray soon.

Here's the thing about this announcement though: It's a bit underwhelming.

Misery, Drag Me To Hell, The Strangers, and Silent Night, Deadly Night are all great titles, but they're already on Blu-ray, so unless each of them get stellar new transfers and come with some crazy Bonus Features, it's just a double dip. No thanks. Of course if you don't already have these titles on Blu-ray, then they are well-worth adding to your collection.

And are we crazy for not caring about Darkman II & III, Eye of the Cat, and Attack of the Puppet People?

Cyborg we can get behind though. American Gothic too.

We love us some Scream Factory, but with all of the great Horror & Genre titles out there that desperately deserve the Blu-ray treatment, is this the best that they can do?

**BIG ANNOUNCEMENT OF UPCOMING TITLES!***

We just revealed the following upcoming Scream Factory Blu-ray releases at our Comic Con panel this evening. Here's the line-up that will be coming soon to you in Nov and early 2018:

  • SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT (Collector's Edition) (1984) – Ho Ho Horror! The anti-holiday slasher cult classic favorite is being prepped for release before Christmas.
  • MISERY (Collector’s Edition) (1990) – Hide the sledgehammers! Stephen King and Rob Reiner’s iconic classic receives the deluxe treatment it rightfully deserves.
  • DRAG ME TO HELL (Collector’s Edition) (2009) – We go more in-depth into Sam Raimi’s wildly-entertaining and wicked soul-cursing hit film.
  • THE STRANGERS (Collector’s Edition) (2008) – One of the scariest film ever in the “home invasion” subgenre gets an upgrade ahead of its planned 2018 sequel.
  • CYBORG (Collector’s Edition) (1989) Martial arts legend Jean-Claude Van Damme battles evil in this late 80s post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller.
  • AMERICAN GOTHIC (1988) – Often-requested quasi slasher film starring Rod Steiger and Yvonne DeCarlo. From the Director of The Legend of Hell House.
  • DARKMAN II (1995) & DARKMAN III (1996) – First time on Blu-ray! Both star Arnold Vosloo. Jeff Fahey appears in III. Official street dates for both are 11/7/17. Extras are in progress and will be announced at a later date.
  • EYE OF THE CAT (1969) – From the Screenwriter of Psycho and stars Eleanor Parker. First time on a home entertainment format!
  • ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE (1958) – From Bert I. Gordon. First time on Blu-ray! Official street date is 11/14/17.

#SDCC Trailer: Stranger Things Season 2

"It’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the Demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived."

Dragon's Lair; a gigantic, Lovecraftian monster; the Fall, Halloween feel; that final Eleven reveal; and Thriller playing over everything... this trailer rocks, and Season 2 of Stranger Things looks to be even better than the first one.

Get hype.

Stranger Things Season 2 hits Netflix on October 27th.

#SDCC: Some Carla Gugino Casting News!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Haunting_of_Hill_House
So not only is Netflix making a series out of Shirley Jackson's classic novel, The Haunting of Hill House, but it's being directed my Mike Flanagan, the guy who gave us the awesome Hush (review HERE). The best part of the whole thing though is that it's going to star maybe the sexiest woman of all-time, Carla Gugino.

The series is set to run 10 episodes, and it will star Carla Gugino.

Carla Gugino.

Sure, we're harping on one aspect of this news, but guess what? Carla Gugino is one of our all-time favorite Horror Hotties (and Hotties in general), so you just shush.

This is good news, folks. For us and for Netflix.

#SDCC Trailer: The Walking Dead Season 8

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1520211/
"Negan brutally forced Rick and the group to fall under his will in the first half of Season 7, and now Rick understands that Negan cannot be reasoned with, and that he and his group have to prepare to go to war. The second half of Season 7 is about getting ready to take Negan down once and for all. Victory will require more than just the supplies and numbers in Alexandria, and while in pursuit of more weapons, food and new fighters, Rick and the group will be tested in ways we've never seen before. They'll explore a world that is much bigger than anything they've encountered. The group will rise up and band together, but nothing can prepare them for all-out battle with Negan and his army."

Not much needs to be said about this one, so dig in!

Season 8 of The Walking Dead premieres on October 22nd.

#SDCC Trailer: Bright (2017)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5519340/
"Set in a world where mystical creatures live side by side with humans. A human cop is forced to work with an Orc to find a weapon everyone is prepared to kill for."

Netflix is attempting to play with the big boys by giving us a $100 million original movie about Will Smith and an orc trying to find a magical sword. Who would come up with an idea that crazy, you might ask, well Max Landis of course, which makes us kinda nervous, because his films have all kinda sucked.

I have to admit though, that as odd and maybe even silly as Bright looks, I think it might end up being pretty cool. Will Smith looks in top form, and Joel Edgerton is awesome, so being that most of us grew up playing D&D, we're willing to give this one a chance.

Bright hits Netflix on December 22nd.

#SDCC: A New IT Poster Floats Down Here Too...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1396484/
As if Horror fans aren't excited enough about the upcoming remake of IT, a brand new Comic Con exclusive poster has been revealed, and it it's eerily brilliant.

They also screened a brand new trailer too, but we don't have that yet. YET.

IT hits theaters everywhere on September 8th.

"In Derry, Maine, seven friends come face-to-face with a shape shifter, who takes the form of an evil clown who targets children."

SDCC '16: Scream Factory Announces 13 new titles!

Yes, we're still sifting through the fallout of Comic-Con, as there are still notable announcements to cover. Like this one...

This past weekend, Scream Factory, one of our favorite boutique Genre Blu-ray labels, announced 13 new titles that they'll be adding to their already impressive catalogue, including two of our favorite Horror movies of all-time.

Check out the Press Release below.

***HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT OF 13 UPCOMING TITLES!***

"We just revealed the following upcoming Scream Factory blu-ray releases at our Comic Con panel this evening. Here's the exciting line-up:

2 WILLARD (1971) – The rare 70s rat-revenge film is (finally) coming to DVD & Blu-ray!

13. DEAD OF WINTER (1987) – Chilling thriller starring Mary Steenburgen and the late great Roddy McDowell.

We have no other details to report on this time. Expect though that some of these will be begin releasing in November.

We hope you are as excited as we are about these. Which ones are you looking forward to this most???"

Now, the movie on that list that we're most excited about is Bubba Ho-Tep. Not only is it an excellent movie, but it's never been on Blu-ray before, and the fact that Scream is working with Don Coscarelli to give us a Collector's Edition of the 00's Classic means that it will get the love and care that it deserves.

We're also curious to see if they'll be doing a completely new transfer of Black Christmas too. If so, it will be a Must Own title for us, as it's one of the best Horror flicks ever made.

Add to those the 2 killer rat movies from the 70's; two great David Cronenberg flicks; the two Poltergeist and Slumber Party Massacre sequels; and Dead of Winter, and we've got a lot to look forward to from Scream Factory over the next few months, and into the new year.

It's a good time to be a Horror fan.
