10 of the Best (and Worst) Horror Movie Fathers of All-Time!

Last month, we gave the Mothers of the Horror world their due, and so now it's only fair that we do the same for the Fathers. Because it's Father's Day.

Most of the Dads on this list are wonderful and loving, and they give everything that they have to keep their kids safe and sound. There are a few Fathers on this list however who are evil and skeevy, and never should have been parents to begin with.

Either way, let's show them some Father's Day love, shall we?

JERRY BLAKE: THE STEPFATHER (1989)

Jerry is a family man, through and through, and everybody loves him. Hell, even the guy in the corner of that picture looks like he's about to start the slow clap and say "Yeah, Jerry is good people!" Jerry is also insane, and kills his families (yes, that's plural) once they disappoint him, which they always do.

Is he the best Horror Movie Father ever? I don't know, but we can say that Terry O'Quinn was perfect in the role, making him (and the movie) a genuine classic.

MAN: THE ROAD (2009)

Protecting his kid from cannibals, scavengers, and even Omar from The Wire while trying to survive in a Post-Apocalyptic world is something that any good, loving Father would do. Watching Viggo Mortensen do it for 90 minutes is a pure treat, because he's so damn intense and believable.

Great movie, but lord is it ever bleak.

WADE VOGEL: MAGGIE (2015)

This Father would not give up on his zombie daughter, right up until the very end. Even when it became clear that she was getting closer and closer to eating him (and everyone else around them), he loved her too much to quit on her. Until the very end, at least.

If this movie doesn't mess with you emotionally, then you may not have a soul, my friends.

DADDY: THE LOVED ONES (2012)

"Daddy, can we abduct a boy, torture him, and have a twisted Prom right here in our own living room?"
"Anything for my Princess!"
Inappropriate kissing ensues.

If this movie taught us anything, it's that a father and his daughter should never be lovers, because it usually leads to murder. Plus, it's really creepy.

JACK TORRANCE: THE SHINING (1980)

Probably the most famous Horror Movie Father of all-time, Jack Torrance was a tormented soul who tried to be a good Husband and Father, but liked alcohol too much to do so. Also, the ghosts telling him to kill his family probably didn't help much.

JOHN BAXTER: DON'T LOOK NOW (1973)

Another sad, depressing movie about a Father and the love that he has for his daughter, Don't Look Now is really about the Horror of dealing with grief... and how that grief comes in the form of a dead child in a rain slicker running around killing people in Venice, while their Father is vacationing/grieving there.

This is an excellent movie with one of the best ending reveals of all-time.

GIDI: BIG BAD WOLVES (2013)

Sometimes, a Father's love involves retribution, which involves a hammer. This is a great movie that has an ending that will leave you haunted.

DAVID POE: HOME MOVIE (2008)

Some Fathers are oblivious to everything that's going on around them. In the case of Home Movie, that cluelessness leads to them being murdered in a horrible way. By their kids.

Worst Foster Dad ever. Nice suit though.

You rape a man's daughter and leave her for dead, you get tortured to death. Sounds fair to us.
