What's New on VOD this Week? A LOT!

There are 8 movies of note hitting VOD outlets this week, and if you can’t find at least one amongst them that you want to watch, then you might be impossible to please.

We've already seen Creep, Ex Machina, and Horsehead, all of which were worthwhile efforts in different ways. Of the ones that we haven't seen though, Bound to Vengeance and Ghoul are at the top of our Must See list.

*Click the posters or pics below to rent the movies/view their trailers.

Bound to Vengeance: A young girl, chained in the basement of a sexual predator, escapes and turns the tables on her captor.

We're suckers for a good revenge flick, and this one looks like it's going to be pretty solid. We loved the trailer, and we've always been fans of Richard Tyson, so we'll be renting this one happily, and with high expectations.

Creep: When a videographer answers a Craigslist ad for a one-day job in a remote mountain town, he finds his client is not at all what he initially seems.

If you're in the mood for an unsettling Found Footage flick, then Creep just might be what you're looking for. It's only available on iTunes right now, so you'll have to fire up your iPads to give it a go. Unless you have Apple TV, because that would work too.

Ex Machina: A young programmer is selected to participate in a breakthrough experiment in artificial intelligence by evaluating the human qualities of a breathtaking female A.I.

One of the best movies of the year so far, and one of the best pure Sci-Fi flicks of the decade (and maybe even beyond), Ex Machina is an unsettling little flick that will make you fear technology, or at least Robotic AI's. *It's hitting VOD a few weeks ahead of its Blu-ray & DVD release, so give it an early look.

Ghoul: GHOUL is a supernatural horror film involving the real life story of the Soviet Union's most violent serial killer, Andrei Chikatilo. Three Americans travel to the Ukraine to film a documentary about the cannibalism epidemic that swept through the country during the famine of 1932. After being lured deep into the Ukraine forest for an interview with one of the last known survivors, they quickly find themselves trapped in a supernatural hunting ground.

We're really, really hoping that Ghoul ends up being a creepy little Found Footage flick, as it's got one hell of a premise, but it's gotten some mixed reviews so far, so we're tempering our expectations accordingly.

We're still going to give it a watch this weekend though.

Horsehead: Following the death of her maternal grandmother she hardly knew, Jessica reluctantly returns to the family home. Upon her arrival, Jessica discovers that her late grandmother is lying in the adjoining room to her own during the wake. After a rough first night made restless by a strange nightmare in which she meets her dead grandmother, Jessica suddenly becomes ill. Stuck in bed with a high fever, the young woman decides to use her lethargic state to try out lucid dreaming.

Another movie that we've already seen (and loved), Horsehead is your ticket if you're looking for something dreamy... or nightmarish... or like you're having a waking nightmare while high on acid. Or all three.

The Midnight Swim: Spirit Lake is unusually deep. No diver has ever managed to find the bottom, though many have tried. When Dr. Amelia Brooks disappears during a deep-water dive, her three daughters travel home to settle her affairs. They find themselves unable to let go of their mother and become drawn into the mysteries of the lake.

This one is probably going to be more of a Drama/Mystery than it is a Horror/Thriller, but we're still intrigued.
