What's New on VOD This Week? (2/21-2/24)

There's not a bad one in the bunch (we think) as far as VOD go this week, as all 10 new releases look be to be an interesting watch to varying degrees.

*Be sure to click the pics to rent the movies, or watch their trailers. Or both. Or neither. It really depends on your mood, now doesn't it?

*If you aren't already a member, you should really give Amazon Prime a shot, especially if you order movies on the regular like we do, because the free two-day shipping pays for itself after around 10 orders. Check it out for free HERE.

ORDER
  1. The Girl With all the Gifts was released in the UK back in September, and we're thrilled that we get to finally be able to check it out here in the U.S. The book was great, and the movie adaptation has got a great cast going for it, so there's no reason to be anything but excited to see this one. It's #1 on our list tonight.
  2. As much as we love S.Korean Serial Killer flicks, Creepy is one that we've been dying to check out for months now. It has yet to show up on Amazon, but it's available on iTunes, so that's at least something. We need to see this movie.
  3. Nocturnal Animals (read our review HERE) is a great movie, even if we didn't exactly love the twist that drove the whole thing forward. It may not end up being what you expect by the end, but it's a journey that's well-worth taking anyhow. It's well worth a rental.
  4. Incarnate and Shut In were both flops at the Box Office, as well as with critics, but damn them all, because we always feel compelled to check out the latest glossy, soulless Hollywood cash-in Horror flick despite our better judgment.
  5. Scars is a little Netherlands-produced torture porn joint that popped up on our radar out of nowhere, and after watching the trailer, it's got us intrigued.
  6. We're down to see It Watches, but probably when it hits Netflix
  7. Not really sure what to make of We Go On. It sounds interesting, and has garnered some solid reviews, but it comes from the producers of a movie called Yellowbrickroad that we hated, so can we really trust them to deliver a good flick to us? I don't know, but we'll be tuning into Shudder to find out. Pray for us.
  8. VooDoo looks like it a hot mess. Still open to checking it out though.
  9. If there's one movie of the bunch that looks like it might be a stinker, it's probably Needlestick. It's got a dumb title, but the trailer looks decent, and we're always happy to see genre great Lance Henriksen in something new, so we'll go into this one with an open mind.
  10. Happy streaming!

Blu-ray & DVD: The Digital Dread Report for 2/21

It's a small week on the Blu-ray & DVD front to be sure, but it's also one that has a few spinning gems to offer us, and we'll take quality over quantity any day.

Be sure to click the pics below to buy the movies, or even rent them. Or both. Or neither. It really depends on your mood, now doesn't it?

  • Overall, I have to say that Mel Gibson's Hacksaw Ridge is probably the "Biggest" release of the week in general. Critics love it, and it's one that we need to see, because Mel Gibson behind the camera is gold. Yes, we love Mel. We're also suckers for War pics with an emotional bent, so we're all in on this one.
  • Nocturnal Animals (read our review HERE) is a great movie, even if we didn't exactly love the twist that drove the whole thing forward. It may not end up being what you expect by the end, but it's a journey that's well-worth taking anyhow. The more I think about it, the more it haunts me... and I know that sounds like hyperbole, but it's the truth. The Blu-ray should look fantastic too.
  • In his first real role, Jean Claude Van Damme played a bad guy, and if No Retreat, No Surrender is anything, it's a cheesy 80's karate movie that will entertain the shit out of you, especially watching JCVD mean mug the camera. It's mad cool that this movie has finally hit Blu-ray, and it's going to be in our collections soon enough.
  • Black Widows looks like it might be a fun, low-budget Indie flick, if you're in the mood for a black comedy that treads into the waters of rape revenge. That just sounds wrong, but hey, maybe it's a laugh riot!
  • Everything else, as always, is a crap-shoot.

Trailer: Prepare to Enter the Madness That is The Void!

"In the middle of a routine patrol, officer Daniel Carter happens upon a blood-soaked figure limping down a deserted stretch of road. He rushes the young man to a nearby rural hospital staffed by a skeleton crew, only to discover that patients and personnel are transforming into something inhuman. As the horror intensifies, Carter leads the other survivors on a hellish voyage into the subterranean depths of the hospital in a desperate bid to end the nightmare before it's too late."

The trailer for The Void brings to mind movies like The Thing and Assault on Precinct 13, which is probably why its being billed as an homage to the early works of John Carpenter. Whether or not the quality of the movie lives up to that name, and those movies, it sure looks like a crazy, twisted, gory good time.

We're all in come April 7th.

The Void hits theaters and VOD on April 7th.
