Scream Factory is Giving The Thing the Deluxe Blu-ray Treatment This September!

As if we didn't already love Scream Factory enough, they go and announce that they're bringing John Carpenter's The Thing, one of the best Horror movies of all-time, to Blu-ray in a 2-Disc Collector's Edition this September.

We honestly didn't think anything could top their Return of the Living Dead and Session 9 announcements, but this is a special, special thing.

From their Facebook page:

**NEW TITLE ANNOUNCE to Celebrate Our 4-Year Anniversary!**

"We couldn't let this special day go by without some exciting news that we hope will rock you to the core: John Carpenter's classic THE THING will be getting a 2-disc Blu-ray Collector's Edition treatment this Fall!

We are truly honored to have the chance to pay the ultimate respect for this popular and iconic film. Release date is planned for September. Stay tuned to this page within the next week for all the details including new artwork extras and more.

Lastly, we want to take this time on our anniversary to once again thank you guys for so much support over the last four rewarding years. It's been an amazing ride and we look forward to more of the "rollercoaster" for more years to come."

We've been on a John Carpenter kick ever since he announced his involvement in the making of a new Halloween movie, and now that Scream is giving one of the best flicks ever the deluxe Blu-ray treatment, that kick is most likely to continue.

September can not get here fast enough! We'll post specs and pre-order info when they become available.

Two big studio flicks that didn't do so well at the Box Office; a Crime Thriller starring a ton of cool people; some evil snakes; a psychic killer; and the Human Fu****g Tornado!... the last week in May isn't going to break our bank, but its releases will certainly stretch our wallets a bit.

A bit, I say.

So let's check out this week's New Releases below, and be sure to click the pics to order yourself some flicks!

"Pride And Prejudice And Zombies is a fresh twist on Jane Austen's widely celebrated novel. A mysterious plague has fallen upon 19th century England, the land is overrun with the undead and feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is a master of martial arts and weaponry. Casting aside personal and social prejudices, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy must unite on the blood-soaked battlefield to rid the country of the zombie menace and discover their true love for one another."

We weren't big fans of PP+Z at all, but we know plenty of people that really dug the way that it injected zombies into such a classic romance, so hey, this is probably going to be a big Blu-ray. If you're gong to grab a copy, this 4K version is probably the way to go.

Special Features:

  • Deleted Scenes.
  • Mr. Collins Line-o-rama.
  • Gag Reel.
  • Four Featurettes.

"In this spectacular action-adventure, the survival of mankind hangs in the balance as an unexpected mortal hero Bek undertakes a thrilling journey to save the world and rescue his true love. In order to succeed, he must enlist the help of the powerful god Horus in an unlikely alliance against Set, the merciless god of darkness, who has usurped Egypt's throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict. As their breathtaking battle against Set and his henchmen takes them into the afterlife and across the heavens, both god and mortal must pass tests of courage and sacrifice if they hope to prevail in the epic final confrontation."

This movie bombed at the Box Office, and we mean in a big way, but for fans of movies like John Carter, or the Clash of the Titans flicks, Gods of Egypt will probably be a fun, visually-impressive watch. We love director Alex Proyas, so it can't be all bad. Again, grab the 4K version.

Special Features:

  • Deleted Storyboards.
  • A Divine Vision: Creating a Cinematic Action Fantasy.
  • Of Gods and Mortals: The Cast.
  • Transformation: Costume, Make-up & Hair.
  • On Location: Shooting in Australia.
  • The Battle for Eternity: Stunts.
  • A Window into Another World: Visual Effects.

"In Triple 9, a crew of dirty cops is blackmailed by the Russian mob to execute a virtually impossible heist. The only way to pull it off is to manufacture a 999, police code for "officer down". Their plan is turned upside down when the unsuspecting rookie they set up to die foils the attack, triggering a breakneck, action-packed finale filled with double-crosses, greed and revenge."

Triple 9 was a solid Crime Thriller that boasts an excellent ensemble cast... which is why it's a bit disappointing that it wasn't a better movie overall. Still, we'll happily re-visit this one down the road, so this Blu-ray is of some interest to us.

Special Features:

  • Deleted Scenes.
  • Under the Gun – The acclaimed cast of Triple 9 offers an in-depth look at its characters and the pulse-pounding twists and turns at the heart of the film.
  • Authentic World – Director John Hillcoat and the cast of Triple 9 discuss how their grounded approach to filmmaking helped highlight the film's gritty, authentic look and feel.

  • Non-4K versions of Gods of Egypt and Pride+Prejudice+Zombies are available too.
  • Blood Bath looks to be another solid release of an older, more obscure Genre flick by Arrow Video U.S.
  • If you're a fan of Dolemite, then The Human Tornado will probably make you happy in the same way. Rudy Ray Moore is the man.
  • Venom looks like a cool release of another cheesy 80's B-movie. Blue Underground releases usually don't disappoint.
  • And I know nothing about Psychic Killer, but it's out on Blu-ray!
