What's New on VOD This Week? (6/7-6/10)

VOD 550
*Check out our other Release Date Pages: Blu-ray & DVD, Theatrical, VOD, TV.

Stephen King takes on a murderous cellphone signal; Michael Shannon tries to get his super-powered kid to safety; and Julia Stiles is out for revenge against Ray Liotta... this week's VOD releases all feel like smaller, middle ground  efforts, but they're still intriguing. They've got some big name star power behind them too.

*De Palma, Therapy For a Vampire, and Queen of Spades: The Dark Rite have all opted to go the way of Limited Theatrical release (without VOD) for now. We'll let you know if that changes.

*Be sure to click the pics to rent the movies, or watch their trailers. Or both. Or neither. It really depends on your mood, now doesn't it?

"At the Boston airport, Clay witnesses a scene of chaotic mayhem when an electronic signal turns hundreds of cell phone users into rabid killers. Desperate to find his estranged wife and son, Clay teams with a train driver to battle the horde of murderous "phoners" as the city descends into apocalyptic madness."

The book was pretty good, but I'm not sure how they're going to cram so much story into a 2-hour movie and do it justice, as Stephen King stories like this have always screamed mini-series to me. The trailer looks decent enough though, and the cast is strong, so we'll definitely be giving it a go this weekend.

"The government and a group of religious extremists pursue a man and his son, a young boy who possesses special powers."

Midnight Special is a solid, if flawed, Sci-Fi Thriller that we liked for the most part. It's definitely worth a rent, especially is you like flicks like Super 8.

"A vengeful young woman (Julia Stiles) recruits two men (Anthony Hopkins, Alexander Ludwig) to help her track down a former cop (Ray Liotta) who stalked and attacked her."

We love Thrillers like Blackway, and with names like Ray Liotta, Anthony Hopkins, and Julia Stiles amongst the cast, we'll definitely be watching this one.

Also
  • Dark was interesting, but it was a slow-moving Psychological Thriller that didn't even inspire us to review it. Doesn't mean that you won't like it though.
  • We're definitely curious to check out The Offering
  • And Monsterland and The Carrier might make for entertaining watches.
  • Happy Streaming!
