31 Days of Creepy Scenes, #22: Megan is Found *Warning: this post contains HUGE ENDING SPOILERS for Megan is Missing. Beware.

They've given us nightmares, given us chills, made us cringe, mad us laugh, made us gag, and made us stare at the screen in awe: these are the scenes that pop into our minds when we think of great Horror Films, and we love them all.

*We recommend that if you've never seen these scenes before, that you experience them for the first time unspoiled in the movies that they come from, if you can. With that in mind, we'll try to be as spoiler-free as possible while discussing them, try, being the key word.

What you have to understand about this movie is that for its first half, it plays like a Found Footage peek into the lives of teenagers and their partying, and it's not exactly very Horror-like. Once Megan goes missing though, things start to get progressively creepier, until they end up becoming flat-out disturbing.

The last 20 minutes or so of this movie are pretty harrowing, and the "scene" which we're referring to is so chilling, that it made and adult man say "holy fuck," and pause the movie. Yes, we were that adult man!

Amy is abducted by the same person who abducted her best friend Megan, and she's taken to what can only be called his "rape dungeon." While there, he subjects her to rape and torture, both mental and physical, which is horrific enough to witness, but it's when he asks her "Do you want to see Megan?" that things get even more horrifying.

What he shows Amy, and what he does with her afterwards, are the things of nightmares. Literal nightmares.

There's been no review that we've done that has gotten more looks, or garnered more feedback and comments, than has Megan is Missing. It's a sobering, horrifying story that will leave most who see it freaked out or shaking, and when I say that, I'm actually paraphrasing the reactions of people who have seen it, and shared their reactions with us. I'm not trying to over-sell anything here.

If you've never seen Megan is Missing, give it a rent this October... and watch it with anyone you know who get scared really easily. Trust us.

  1. Noo why did you have to remind me.. Just seeing that image made me panic-scroll and literally gave me chills. No movie has never made me feel sick like I did when watching Megan is missing. Not only was the rape scene horrible to endure but what followed truly haunted me and I still feel terrible just thinking about the movie.

I think it's interesting tho. Is this what we qualify as "entertainment"? isn't that what a movie is supposed to be? I think some things are a bit too real.

  2. In all honesty, I don't think that Michael Goi made this movie to be entertaining perse. I really believe that his main goal was to raise awareness about online dangers that kids face, and for better or worse, he did a pretty good job of it.

    It haunts us too.
