Oh man-this was a tough one to watch. I know you guys hate Saw (I love Saw, but when I go see Saw I am thinking "I will be watching an NC-17 rated television show" and my mind is thereby open to the magic--but I'm not sure I remember whether you hate Hostel. I feel Hostel is sometimes misunderstood-people don't see the joy in the film-making of Hostle, or how preciously Roth handles his gory subject matter. He is a master of tone, and the subversion of tone, in horror.
Centipede has none of the levity that Hostel has, none of the silliness of Saw. It actually reminds me of some of the more devastating Miike (sp?) films, like Ichi and Auditon, both of which were hard for me to watch.
The joy is only in the violence and denigration of the characters in Centipede, which I find very hard to watch. It is horrific, that is for sure, not scary, but horrific, and not a single reprieve to the horrors within. I think this movie went over the limit for me. It was effective, but it relied heavily on S&M to deliver (kinda like the early Saw films).
I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys think!
And Mob, I love Saw, liked the 2,d, thought the 3rd was alright, but after that it seems as if they are released only because they know people will go to see them.
Hostel I loved, and liked part 2 better... Odd, I know.
As for the centipede, it looks tough. I'm not big on wanting to gag during movies, so I'm sure I have my work cut out for me watching this one... were gathering tomorrow night, so we shall see...

I hope the reviews are slightly positive, the movie has its faults but its pretty entertaining in that freakshow sorta way
I read an article about this and it really made me feel sick. But, I am sure I will watch it anyway. In fact, I will probably think it is hysterical.
